Description: "Children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) are widely diverse in terms of language needs, use of sensory devices, such as cochlear implants and hearing aids, additional diagnoses, and family backgrounds. At the same time, DHH children have great potential to develop age-appropriate language abilities as well as literacy and other educational skills. This in-service will address the following topics: - Diversity of language needs among DHH children - Communication planning for best outcomes, including use of interpreters with young DHH children - Supporting literacy in DHH children - The role of teachers of the deaf and speech-language pathologists; the differences between the role of teacher of the deaf and intervention specialist" |
